The largest number of overnight stays in mountain resorts
In September, tourist accommodation establishments recorded almost 738,000 arrivals and about 1.8 million overnight stays, 11% more than a year ago, the largest number in municipality Ljubljana. Most overnight stays were generated by foreign tourists, among key markets those from the US and UK.
More domestic and foreign tourists than a year ago
Domestic tourists generated about a fifth (21%) of all overnight stays in accommodation establishments. There were almost 133,000 arrivals and over 378,000 overnight stays (both 6% more than in September last year). They spent the largest number of their nights in seaside municipalities Piran, Izola and Ankaran. The average length of stay was 2.8 nights, the longest in health (spa) resorts, namely 3.8 nights.
Foreign tourists generated 605,000 overnight stays and almost 1.4 million overnight stays, 12% more than a year ago. They generated 79% of all tourist overnight stays and again spent the largest number of their nights in Ljubljana, Piran and Bled. The average length of stay was 2.3 nights, the longest in health (spa) resorts, namely 3.2 nights.

Tourists from Germany generated almost a quarter of all foreign overnight stays
Tourists from Germany generated 23% of all foreign overnight stays or 319,800, which was 14% more than last September. They spent the most nights in municipalities Ljubljana, Bovec and Piran.
They were followed by tourists from Austria, who generated 107,600 overnight stays, or 8% more than the year before. They generated 8% of all foreign stays, the most in municipalities Piran, Moravske Toplice and Ljubljana. The average length of stay was 2.4 nights.
Tourists from the United States also generated 6% of all foreign overnight stays, the largest number in municipalities Ljubljana, Bled and Piran. The average length of stay was 2.1 nights.
They were followed by tourists from Italy, Czechia and the United Kingdom (5% from each).

A third of all overnight stays in mountain resorts
The largest number of tourist overnight stays in September was recorded in mountain resorts (33% of all overnight stays). With 20% of all overnight stays seaside resorts ranked second. They were followed by Ljubljana (17%) and health (spa) resorts (15%).
Among mountain resorts the most visited municipality was Bled, with almost a quarter of overnight stays in mountain resorts. Piran remains the most visited municipality among seaside resorts, with almost 61% of overnight stays in seaside resorts. Brežice is the most visited municipality among health (spa) resorts.
The longest average length of stay was recorded in health (spa) resorts (3.5 nights), followed by seaside resorts (3.2 nights), mountain resorts (2.3 nights) and Ljubljana (2.1 nights).
Overnight stays up the most in camping sites
Tourists generated the largest number of overnight stays in hotels (753,600 or 43% of all). Compared to last year, the number increased by 8%. They were followed by private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings (25%), where the number went up by 12%. Camping sites recorded 14% of all overnight stays, 24% more than last year.
In Slovenia, nearly 170,000 permanent bedplaces were available to tourists in September, of which almost 42,000 were in hotels, where the net occupancy rate of permanent bedplaces was 60%.
In the first nine months, 6% more tourist overnight stays
In the first nine months of this year, tourists generated more than 5.8 million arrivals (6% more than in the same period last year) and over 15 million overnight stays (also 6% more). Foreign tourists generated over three quarters (76%) of all overnight stays, the largest number tourists from Germany.
Domestic tourists generated over 3.5 million overnight stays, slightly fewer than in the same period last year, and foreign tourists almost 11.5 million or 8% more.
This year, the most visited municipality was Ljubljana, which was also the only one with more than a million tourist arrivals between January and the end of September. More than 2.2 million overnight stays were generated there during this period. Municipalities Piran (just over 1.6 million) and Bled (just over a million) followed in terms of the number of overnight stays.
Interesting fact: Slovenia welcomed over 30,000 tourists on the first day of the school year
According to the experimental statistics Daily tourism flow in Slovenia, on the first day of school (i.e. 1 September), Slovenia was visited by slightly more than 30,000 tourists, the largest number of whom came from Germany. The most visited municipality on that day was Ljubljana, followed by Piran and Bled. Together, these three municipalities recorded more than a third of all arrivals on that day.
