Tourist arrivals and overnight stays, August 2025
The most successful tourism month so far
At the top of the peak season, tourist accommodation establishments recorded over 1.2 million arrivals and over 3.3 million overnight stays, which was 2% more than in August 2024 and a record number so far. Almost a quarter of all overnight stays was recorded in municipalities Ljubljana and Piran.
4% more foreign tourists and 4% fewer domestic
Domestic tourists generated 18% of all overnight stays in accommodation establishments. There were almost 176,000 arrivals (6% fewer than in August last year) and nearly 606,000 overnight stays (4% fewer). They spent the largest number of their nights in seaside municipalities Piran, Izola and Ankaran, where 27% of all domestic overnight stays were recorded. The average length of stay was 3.4 nights.
Foreign tourists generated over a million arrivals (4% more than in August last year) and more than 2.7 million overnight stays (also 4% more). They generated 82% of all tourist overnight stays and again spent the largest number of their nights (a third of all) in Ljubljana, Piran and Bled. The average length of stay was 2.6 nights.

The largest number of tourists from Germany
Tourists from Germany generated 19% of all foreign overnight stays or 508,800, which was 3% fewer than last August. They spent the most nights in municipalities Bovec, Ljubljana and Radovljica. The average length of stay was 2.9 nights.
They were followed by tourists from Italy, who generated 258,500 overnight stays, or 3% more than the year before. They generated 9% of all foreign stays, the most in municipalities Ljubljana, Piran and Kranjska Gora.
Tourists from the Netherlands also generated 9% of all foreign overnight stays or 5% more than last year, the largest number in municipalities Radovljica, Brežice and Bled.
They were followed by tourists from France (8% of all foreign), Czechia (7%) and Poland (6%).

The largest number of overnight stays in mountain resorts
The largest number of tourist overnight stays in August was recorded in mountain resorts (38% of all overnight stays). With 20% of all overnight stays seaside resorts ranked second. They were followed by health (spa) resorts (14%) and Ljubljana (12%).
Year-on-year, the number of overnight stays increased the most in Ljubljana, by 7%. Health (spa) resorts ranked second with a 3% increase. The number went up by about 1% in mountain resorts and down by 2% in seaside resorts.
The longest average length of stay was recorded in seaside resorts (3.8 nights) and in health (spa) resorts (3.7 nights), followed by mountain resorts (2.8 nights) and Ljubljana (2.0 nights).
The largest number of overnight stays in hotels
Tourists generated the largest number of overnight stays in hotels (over a million or 30% of all). Compared to last year, the number increased by 4%. The average length of stay was 2.5 nights.
They were followed by private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings (29%). Their number also increased by 4% compared to last year. The average length of stay was 3.1 nights.
Camping sites recorded 22% of all stays, but 2% fewer than last year. The average length of stay was 3.2 nights.
In the first eight months, 6% more tourist overnight stays
In the first eight months of this year, tourists generated more than 5 million arrivals (6% more than in the same period last year) and over 13.2 million overnight stays (also 6% more). Foreign tourists generated 76% of all overnight stays, the largest number tourists from Germany, followed by those from Italy and Austria.
Domestic tourists generated over 3.1 million overnight stays, about as many as in the same period last year, and foreign tourists over 10 million or 8% more.
Interesting fact: The largest number of tourist arrivals on public holiday 15 August
According to the experimental statistics Daily tourism flow in Slovenia, on public holiday on 15 August, tourist accommodation establishments in Slovenia recorded 54,000 tourist arrivals, which was the highest number in this month. Among these, there were 12,600 domestic tourists, which was also the largest number of their arrivals in August. On the other hand, foreign tourists generated the largest number of arrivals on 9 August (43,100), with the public holiday ranking second (41,400).
