More domestic tourists and visitors traveled with Slovenian travel agencies than a year ago

In 2024, Slovenian travel agencies organized trips with at least one overnight stay for more than 552,000 domestic and nearly 99,000 foreign tourists. Year-on-year, there were more domestic and fewer foreign tourists. They also organized almost a quarter more one-day trips for domestic visitors.

Domestic tourists most frequently travelled abroad 

The number of domestic tourists who travelled with Slovenian travel agencies increased by 4% over the previous year, generating nearly 3.1 million overnight stays. The majority (88%) of these trips were made abroad – domestic tourists generated almost 2.8 million overnight stays there. The number of such trips abroad increased by 3% over the previous year, and within Slovenia by 18%.

Almost one-third or 166,000 of all tourists travelled to Croatia, where more than 821,000 overnight stays were recorded, about the same as in the previous year.

Slovenia ranked second with 12% of all domestic tourists choosing to stay in Slovenia where they generated around 273,000 overnight stays or 27% more than the year before.

Italy was the destination for 8% of all tourists, with slightly more than 181,000 overnight stays recorded. Greece, France, and Egypt followed. 



More than a third of domestic visitors travelled in Slovenia 

In 2024, around 222,000 domestic visitors went on trips organized by Slovenian travel agencies. This is an increase of nearly a quarter compared to the year before. The majority of visitors went abroad, in total, almost 143,000 or 64%.

As regards individual countries, Slovenia was the most visited destination for domestic visitors, with about 36% or 79,100 domestic visitors. The number was 15% lower than in the previous year. Austria was the second most popular destination, with 29% or 64,200 domestic visitors. Italy, Croatia, and Hungary followed as other popular destinations.



Most foreign tourists who came to Slovenia from the United States of America 

Slovenian travel agencies organized trips for nearly 99,000 foreign tourists, who generated just over 397,000 overnight stays. Compared to the year before, this was fewer, but still more than in 2022.

The largest share of tourists came from the United States of America (15% of all foreign tourists), their number increasing by 44% over the previous year. They were followed by tourists from other Asian countries, Austria, Israel, and Germany. From these countries the number of tourists was lower than in the previous year.
