41,000 residents named with a combined first name

At the beginning of this year, residents of Slovenia had 64,000 different first names, 31,000 of which (15,000 male and 16,000 female) consisted of two names. In total, 18,000 men (1.7% of all men) and 23,000 women (2.2% of all women) had a combined first name. Almost all these names were unique, with 90% of combined names naming a single person.

Among women, the most common name was Ana Marija, among men, Žan Luka

The most common combined first name was the female name Ana Marija (999 residents). Two other names appeared more than 200 times (Marija Ana - 288 and Marija Magdalena - 284). Among the top 100 most common female combined names, only 26 did not include Marija as the first or second name. Marija was the most popular female name up to the end of the 1960s. To distinguish among women named Marija, combined names were often given, namely with Marija as a first or as a second name. While the second most common combined name Marija Ana appears only rarely after 1950, the name Ana Marija is still being chosen by parents for new born girls as 63 girls born since 2011 have been given this name. Among all female combined names, 89% were unique.

Among male combined first names, 90% appeared only once. The most common male combined name was Žan Luka (158), followed by Žan Mark (36), and Peter Pavel (31). Žan Luka and Žan Mark have only appeared as a combination since 1991. The third most common male combined name, Peter Pavel, was also used to name six boys born after 2011.
