Fewer private trips within Slovenia
In the second quarter of 2025, Slovenian residents aged 15 or more made 1.9 million tourist trips, 1.7 million of them private. They made fewer private trips in Slovenia than in the same period of 2024.
45% of residents on a tourist trip
Between April and June 2025, 807,000 Slovenian residents (45%) aged 15 or more made at least one tourist trip (private and/or business). That was almost the same number as in the second quarter of last year.
As regards the level of education, the largest share of those who travelled completed upper secondary education (48%), while the lowest share was among those who completed basic education or less (14%). Depending on their status, employed and self-employed travelled the most (63%), followed by retirees (22%).
Among those who did not make a private trip, 29% were deterred by lack of free time. A quarter of domestic tourists stated household finance, 17% health reasons, while 15% did not feel the need to travel.
Two thirds of private trips made abroad
Domestic tourists made around 1.9 million tourist trips, 1.7 million of them private. Compared to the same period last year, they made 10% fewer private trips, due to a lower number of domestic trips.
Two thirds of private trips were made abroad. Among private trips abroad, the most popular destination was Croatia (58%), followed by Italy, and Bosnia and Herzegovina (9% each).
Non-rented accommodations dominated in Slovenia, rented abroad
Around 6.5 million overnight stays were generated on private trips, more than three quarters (77%) of them abroad. In total, 3% fewer overnight stay were generated than in the same period last year.
A private trip in Slovenia lasted on average 2.6 nights and abroad on average 4.3 nights. On average, a domestic tourist on a private trip spent EUR 92 per day, the largest share was spent on accommodation (32%).
The largest share of tourists on private trips in Slovenia preferred to stay with their relatives and friends (35%), followed by own holiday homes, and hotels and similar accommodations (22% each). Abroad, they preferred to stay in private rooms, dwellings, etc. (32%), followed by hotels and similar accommodations (22%).
The largest expenses on same-day visits abroad for transport
In the 2nd quarter of 2025, 12% of domestic tourists made at least one same-day visit abroad (private and/or business). Slovenian residents generated around 493,000 same-day visits abroad, 69% of them private. On average, they spent EUR 103 per person. They allocated the largest share of their expenses for transport, followed by food and drink in cafes and restaurants.
