Consumer prices up by 3.0% annually and unchanged at the monthly level
In August, consumer prices increased on average by 3.0% annually. Higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages are still the main factor of annual inflation. At the monthly level, on average prices did not change.
The annual price increase affected the most by higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages
In August, consumer prices increased by 3.0% at the annual level. In the same month last year, inflation stood at 0.9%.
In one year, service prices increased on average by 3.1% and goods prices by 3.0%. Semi-durable goods prices went up by 5.2%, non-durable goods prices by 3.2% and durable goods prices by 0.3%.
The annual growth rate was pushed up the most (by 1.4 percentage points) by 7.6% higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages. These were followed by higher prices of clothing and footwear (by 6.9%) and in restaurants and hotels (by 5.1%), each contributing 0.4 p.p.
Prices unchanged at the monthly level
Compared to July, consumer prices were on average unchanged.
Higher prices of package holidays (by 1.1%) and food (by 0.3%) each contributed 0.1 p.p. Inflation was evened out by cheaper footwear (by 5.7%) and operation of personal transport equipment (by 1.3%), each group contributing –0.1 p.p.
Harmonised indices of consumer prices
Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, this August the annual growth of consumer prices was 3.0% (a year ago 1.1%). At the monthly level, prices were on average unchanged.
In one year, service prices increased on average by 3.7% and goods prices by 2.5%. Semi-durable goods prices went up by 4.3% and non-durable goods prices by 2.8%, while durable goods prices went down by 0.5%.
Annual inflation rates in July 2025 for all EU-27 Member States are available here. Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, in July the annual inflation rate in the EMU countries was 2.0% (same as the month before). In the EU-27 Member States it was 2.4% (a month before 2.3%). The lowest annual inflation rate was recorded in Cyprus (0.1%) and the highest in Romania (6.6%); in Slovenia it stood at 2.9%.
