Consumer prices up by 2.8% annually and 0.5% monthly
In July, consumer prices increased on average by 2.8% annually and by 0.5% monthly. Service prices went up in a year by 3.0% and goods prices by 2.7%.
The annual price increase affected the most by higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages …
In July, consumer prices increased by 2.8% at the annual level. In the same month last year, inflation stood at 1.3%.
In one year, service prices increased on average by 3.0% and goods prices by 2.7%. Non-durable goods prices went up by 3.5%, semi-durable goods prices by 1.4% and durable goods prices by 0.5%.
The annual growth rate was pushed up the most (by 1.4 percentage points) by 7.7% higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages. These were followed by price increases in restaurants and hotels (by 5.6%) and in the group recreation and culture (by 3.0%), which contributed 0.4 p.p. and 0.3 p.p., respectively.
Another 0.2 p.p. each was added by higher prices in the groups health (by 4.3%) and alcohol and tobacco (by 4.0%).
… and the monthly increase by higher prices of package holidays
In July, consumer prices were on average 0.5% higher than a month before.
The monthly inflation was mostly the result of 12.4 % higher prices of package holidays, which contributed 0.5 p.p. Another 0.2 p.p. each was added by higher prices in the group electricity, gas and other fuels (electricity prices went up the most, by 7.4%) and in the operation of personal transport equipment (by 2.2%).
Additional 0.1 p.p. each was contributed by higher prices of accommodation services (by 5.0%), food (by 0.5%) and all other price increases in July.
On the other hand, the monthly inflation was eased the most by lower prices of clothing and footwear. Due to summer sales, clothing prices went down by 11.9%, which reduced the inflation rate by 0.6 p.p., while footwear was 6.5% cheaper than in the previous month and contributed 0.1 p.p. to the easing.
Harmonised indices of consumer prices
Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, this July the annual growth of consumer prices was 2.9% (a year ago 1.4%). The monthly price growth stood at 0.3%.
In one year, service prices increased on average by 3.7% and goods prices by 2.5%. Non-durable goods prices went up by 3.5% and semi-durable goods prices by 0.8%, while durable goods prices went down by 0.1%.
Annual inflation rates in June 2025 for all EU-27 Member States are available here. Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, in June the annual inflation rate in the EMU countries was 2.0% (a month before 1.9%). In the EU-27 Member States it was 2.3% (a month before 2.2%). The lowest annual inflation rate was recorded in Cyprus (0.5%) and the highest in Romania (5.8%); in Slovenia it stood at 2.5%.
