Consumer price indices, June 2025

Annual growth of consumer prices at 2.2%, monthly at 0.8%

The largest impact on the annual inflation came from 6.7% higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages. Monthly inflation was mainly due to 9.1% higher prices of package holidays. In the first half of the year, prices went up by 2.6%.

At the annual level prices on average 2.2% higher

Consumer prices went up by 2.2% compared to June last year. In the same month last year, inflation stood at 1.5%.

In one year, service prices increased on average by 2.6% and goods prices by 2.0%. Non-durable goods prices went up by 2.6%, semi-durable goods prices by 1.2%, and durable goods prices by 0.1%.

Higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (by 6.7%) contributed 1.2 percentage points to the annual inflation rate. They were followed by higher prices in restaurants and hotels (by 5.0%), which contributed 0.4 p.p. Additional 0.2 p.p. each was added by higher prices of products and services in groups alcoholic beverages and tobacco (by 4.1%), health (by 3.7%) and recreation and culture (by 2.4%).

On the other hand, the annual inflation rate was reduced by 0.2 p.p. by 1.5% lower prices in the group housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels. 

In the first half of the year, prices up in almost all main groups

In the first half of this year, consumer prices increased by 2.6% (in the same period last year by 2.3%).

From January to the end of June, the prices in the group recreation and culture went up the most (by 8.4%), followed by higher prices in the groups restaurants and hotels (by 5.0%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (by 4.6%), health (by 4.1%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.8%), and clothing and footwear (by 2.7%).

The largest price drop was recorded in the group housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels. Products and services in this group were on average cheaper by 1.5%.
 
Monthly inflation mainly due to higher prices of package holidays 

Compared to the previous month, consumer prices increased on average by 0.8%. 

The monthly inflation was mostly the result of 9.1% higher prices of package holidays, which contributed 0.4 p.p. 0.2 p.p. was added by 1.2% higher food prices.

Additional 0.1 p.p. each was added by higher prices of tobacco (by 2.0%), furniture and furnishings (by 1.9%) and operation of personal transport equipment (by 0.6%).

On the other hand, the monthly inflation was eased by 0.1 p.p. by 1.8% lower prices of clothing. 

Harmonised indices of consumer prices

Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, this June the annual growth of consumer prices was 2.5% (a year ago 1.6%). The monthly price growth stood at 0.6%.

In one year, service prices went up on average by 4.0% and goods prices by 1.6%. Non-durable goods prices went up by 2.5% and semi-durable goods prices by 0.7%, while durable goods prices went down by 0.7%.

Annual inflation rates in May 2025 for all EU-27 Member States are available here. Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, in May the annual inflation rate in the EMU countries was 1.9% (the month before 2.2%). In the EU-27 Member States it was 2.2% (the month before 2.4%). The lowest annual inflation rate was recorded in Cyprus (0.4%) and the highest in Romania (5.4%); in Slovenia it stood at 1.9%.
