The largest increase in value added in information and communication activities
In 2024, the observed enterprises generated 6.3% more value added and 0.4% more net turnover than in the previous year. The largest increase in value added (by 15.2%) was recorded in information and communication activities.
Almost 206,000 enterprises generated EUR 148.4 billion of net turnover and EUR 38.6 billion of value added
According to provisional data for 2024, in industry, construction, trade and other business services without financial and insurance activities there were 205,974 active enterprises engaged primarily in market-oriented activities. The 3.0% growth in the number of enterprises was mainly driven by construction, and professional, scientific, and technical activities. Enterprises generated EUR 148.4 billion of net turnover and EUR 38.6 billion of value added, which represents an increase of 0.4% and 6.3%, respectively, over the previous year. Trade and manufacturing each accounted for one-third of total net turnover. In manufacturing, net turnover grew by 3.2% and in trade by 0.9%.
Net turnover growth highest in real estate activities
Compared to 2023, the largest increase in net turnover was recorded in real estate activities (by 21.7%). Net turnover in this section amounted to EUR 1.5 billion, representing 1.0% of total net turnover across all sections. More than half of the net turnover in this section was generated by enterprises engaged in renting and operating owned or leased real estate.
Value added growth highest in information and communication activities, especially in computer programming
Last year, the highest increase in value added (by 15.2%) occurred in information and communication activities. This section accounted for 6.6% of the total value added generated in the economy. In this section, nearly 13,000 enterprises were operating in 2024, which is 4.4% more than the year before, employing 1.7% more people.
Within the information and communication activities, most enterprises were engaged in information technology service activities. These enterprises generated more than half of the net turnover and value added in this section. Since 2021, both value added and net turnover in this section have been gradually increasing and are now nearly 50% higher.
