Marine fishing, 2024
The amount of fish caught again below the ten-year average
In 2024, 106.8 tonnes of marine animals were caught, i.e. 1% less than in the previous year. Almost 19 tonnes of gilthead seabream and 10.9 tonnes of muscat octopus were landed. The value of the landing of fishery products was 14% higher than a year before, and amounted to almost EUR 1.1 million.
Catch (landing) comparable to the previous year
In 2024, Slovenian fishermen caught and landed 106.8 tonnes of fresh marine organisms (fresh fish, molluscs and crustaceans), which is 1% less than the year before and almost a quarter less than the ten-year average.
Fresh fish represented the largest share of the total catch (68%). 72.6 tonnes were caught, which is 4% more compared to the previous year. Almost half of total catch (46%) was represented by three fish species: gilthead seabream (19 tonnes), common sole (10 tonnes) and whiting (4.6 tonnes).
The catch of crustaceans represented 7% of the total catch. Compared to the previous year, it increased by almost 15% to 7.6 tonnes, which is about 80% more than the ten-year average. Almost two thirds of all crustaceans caught were caramote prawn (5 tonnes).
Slovenian fisherman caught and landed 26.6 tonnes of molluscs. The total catch was almost a tenth smaller than the ten-year average and 15% lower compared to 2023. In total catch, musky octopus dominated with 10.9 tonnes or a quarter less than in the previous year. Second was European squid with 10.4 tonnes.
