Tourism travels of domestic population, 1st quarter 2025

Slightly fewer private trips, but they were longer

Slovenian residents aged 15 or more made 1.3 million tourist trips in the first quarter of 2025. They made slightly fewer private trips, which, however, lasted longer on average than in the same period of 2024.

More than two thirds of residents did not travel

In the 1st quarter of 2025, 545,000 Slovenian residents (31%) aged 15 or more made at least one tourist trip (private and/or business). That was almost the same as in the same period of the previous year.

The largest share of residents who travelled belonged to the 45–64 age group (37%), followed by those aged 25–44 (35%) and 15–24 (15%). The lowest participation was recorded among residents aged 65 or more (13%). 

Among residents who did not go on any private trips, 31% stated household finance as their main reason. Almost a quarter (24%) were deterred by lack of free time, 15% stated health reasons, while 12% did not feel the need to travel. 



Almost a tenth more overnight stays on private trips 

Domestic tourists made around 1.3 million tourist trips, 1.2 million of them private. Compared to the same period last year, they made 4% fewer private trips. Half of private trips (51%) were made in Slovenia. Among private trips abroad, the main destination was Croatia (29%), followed by Italy (19%), Bosnia and Hercegovina (12%) and Austria (9%).

In the observed period, 4.2 million overnight stays were generated on private trips, 9% more than in the same period last year. A private trip in Slovenia lasted on average 2.4 nights and abroad on average 4.9 nights. The largest share of tourists on private trips (37%) preferred to stay with their friends and relatives, followed by hotels and similar accommodations (27%), private rooms, dwellings, etc. (21%), and own holiday home (13%).

On average, a domestic tourist on a private trip spent EUR 103 per day (EUR 66 in Slovenia, EUR 122 abroad). 

Three fifths of business trips generated abroad

In total, residents of Slovenia went on 162,000 business trips, 59% of them abroad. The number of business trips increased by 14% over the same period in 2024. On average, a domestic tourist on a private trip spent EUR 185 per day.
