Year-on-year decrease mostly due to more hours of annual leave

In the first quarter of this year, persons in paid employment in Slovenia who received a wage and/or a non-refunded wage compensation paid by the employer worked 308.6 million hours, 4.1% fewer than in the same quarter last year. The share of hours worked in paid hours decreased by 1.3 percentage points to 77.4%.

The decrease in the total number of hours worked was partly due to a lower number of paid hours worked and a higher number of annual leave hours used.

A person in paid employment worked on average fewer hours

A person in paid employment worked on average 128 hours per month, 3.1% (i.e. 4 working hours) fewer than a year ago. This was mainly due to a higher number of used annual leave hours.

The average monthly number of hours worked by a person in paid employment went down in almost all sections of activities. The decrease was the highest (by 5.3%) in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities.

The highest number of hours worked in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply and in transportation and storage

The highest average monthly number of hours (131 or 3 more than the national average) was worked by persons employed in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply and in transportation and storage.

The largest annual decrease in administrative and support service activities

In the first quarter of 2025, the total number of hours worked decreased in most sections of activities. It went down the most in administrative and support service activities (by 9.8%) and slightly up in agriculture, forestry and fishing and in real estate activities (by 0.6% and 0.3%, respectively).
