More buildings and more dwellings completed than a year ago

In 2024, 9,000 buildings, 12% more than in 2023, and 5,165 dwellings, 5% more than in 2023, were completed. More than 12,500 buildings were still under construction.

More buildings completed, their floor area larger

After two years of declining number of completed buildings, in 2024 9,000 buildings were completed, which is 12% more than in the previous year. The number of completed residential buildings went up by 8% and of completed non-residential buildings by 14%. The total floor area of all completed buildings was a little more than 2 million square metres or 4% more than in the previous year. The floor area of completed residential buildings was 7% larger and of completed non-residential buildings 1% larger. In 2024, 12,513 buildings were still under construction, 53% of them residential and 47% of them non-residential. 

As regards the floor area of buildings, legal and natural persons invested almost the same 

Natural persons completed 7,791 buildings and legal persons 1,209. The total floor area of buildings completed by natural persons was a little more than 1 million square metres and the floor area of buildings completed by legal persons was almost the same (3,666 m2 fewer). According to the floor area of buildings, natural persons invested mostly in one-dwelling buildings (51% of floor area), followed by farm buildings (22% of floor area) and garage buildings (8% of floor area). In other buildings, natural persons invested less. On the other hand, legal persons, according to the floor area of buildings, invested mostly in three- and more dwelling buildings (24% of floor area), followed by industrial buildings, and by reservoirs, silos and warehouses (16% of floor area in each). In other buildings, legal persons invested less.

More dwellings completed than in the previous year

In 2024, 13,808 dwellings were under construction, of which 5,165 were completed by the end of the year, which is 5% more than in 2023. In one-dwelling buildings 2,588 dwellings were completed, which is 12% more than a year before, and in two- and more dwelling buildings 2,380 dwellings were completed, which is 2% more than a year before. 197 dwellings were completed in residences for communities and in non-residential buildings. 

The average useful floor space of a dwelling completed in 2024 was 129 m2 (in 2023, 121 m2); in one-dwelling buildings it was 169 m2 (in 2023, 166 m2) and in two- and more dwelling buildings 93 m2 (in 2023, 82 m2). Most dwellings in one-dwelling buildings have five or more rooms (55% of all), and in two- and more dwelling buildings two or three rooms (31% of all in each). 
 
Half of dwellings built in the Osrednjeslovenska and Podravska statistical regions
 
The largest number of dwellings, 1,585, was completed in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region (31% of all or 18% more than in 2023). The Podravska statistical region was second with 985 dwellings (19% of all or 10% more). On the other hand, the fewest dwellings were completed in the Zasavska statistical region (fewer than 1%). Among the municipalities, the largest number of dwellings was completed in Ljubljana (758), followed by Maribor (253) and Grosuplje (175). In other municipalities fewer dwellings were completed.
