More cows’ milk collected; production of dairy products mostly decreased year-on-year
Milk production has been increasing year-on-year in recent months. This March, almost 4% more milk was collected from farms than a year ago. On the other hand, dairies only increased the production of acidified milk, producing smaller quantities of all other milk products.
Milk production in an upward trend since August
In March, around 52,000 tonnes of milk was collected from agricultural holdings. This was 14.4% more at the monthly level, which is higher than the usual seasonal increase. In year-on-year comparison, production increased by 3.6%, continuing the upward trend that has begun last August.
Monthly increase in production of milk products, typical for March, with the exception of cream
Compared to February, dairies increased the production of butter by more than 26%, of drinking milk by almost 18%, of acidified milk by more than 11%, and of cheese production by almost 2%. On the other hand, the production of cream decreased by almost 3%.
Only the production of acidified milk up year-on-year
Compared to March 2024, dairies decreased the production of cheese by almost 10%, of cream by more than 7% and of drinking milk as well as butter by around 4%. Only the production of acidified milk increased – it was over 4% higher.
In first quarter, too, only acidified milk production increased
Production of acidified milk was almost 3% higher than in first three months of 2024. On the other hand, the production of cheese decreased by more than 6%, of drinking milk by more than 3%, of cream by more than 2% and of butter by around 1%.
The price of raw milk in the EU up in February 2025
The price of raw milk in the EU increased by 0.6% in February and amounted to EUR 0.538/kg. In March, the price of raw milk is expected to decrease slightly.
