Consumer price indices, April 2025
Annual inflation at 2.3%, monthly at 1.3%
Consumer prices rose by 2.3% at the annual level and by 1.3% at the monthly level. Higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages were the main contributors to the annual inflation rate, while the rising cost of package holidays had the largest impact on monthly inflation.
Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages show the highest annual increases
Consumer prices went up by 2.3% compared to April last year. In the same month last year, inflation stood at 3.0%.
In one year, service prices increased on average by 3.2% and goods prices by 1.8%. Semi-durable goods prices went up by 3.9% and non-durable goods prices by 1.9%, while durable goods were 0.3% cheaper.
Higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (by 5.9%) contributed 1.1 percentage points to the annual inflation rate. These were followed by price increases in the groups clothing and footwear (by 4.2%), recreation and culture (by 3.0%), and restaurants and hotels (by 4.4%), each contributing an additional 0.3 p.p. to inflation.
In April higher prices of package holidays and footwear
In April, consumer prices were on average 1.3% higher than a month before.
Monthly inflation was pushed up the most (by 0.5 p.p.) by higher prices of package holidays (by 13.6%). 0.4 p.p. was added by 20.0% higher prices of shoes and other footwear. Additional 0.1 p.p. each came from price increases of passenger transport by air (by 26.3%), equipment for sport, camping and open-air recreation (by 9.0%), accommodation services (by 5.5%), vegetables (by 4.2%), meat (by 2.6%), furniture and furnishings (by 1.9%), and all other price increases in April.
On the other hand, monthly inflation was eased by 0.1 p.p each due to lower prices of liquid fuels (by 6.3%) and fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment (by 3.1%). Additional 0.1 p.p. came from 4.1% lower prices of non-durable household goods.
Harmonised indices of consumer prices
Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, this April the annual growth of consumer prices was 2.3% (a year ago 3.0%). The monthly price growth stood at 0.8%.
In one year, service prices went up on average by 3.8% and goods prices by 1.5%. Semi-durable goods prices went up by 3.1% and non-durable goods prices by 1.7%, while durable goods prices went down by 1.0%.
Annual inflation rates in March 2025 for all EU-27 Member States are available here. Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, in March the annual inflation rate in the EMU countries was 2.2% (a month before 2.3%). In the EU-27 Member States it was 2.5% (a month before 2.7%). The lowest annual inflation rate was recorded in France (0.9%) and the highest in Romania (5.1%); in Slovenia it stood at 2.2%.
