Natural decrease and positive net migration
According to provisional data for the 4th quarter of 2024, natural decrease of population (−1,286) and positive net migration (3,084) were recorded.
More live births and fewer deaths
Between October and December 2024, 4,207 live births and 5,493 deaths were recorded in Slovenia. Compared to the same period of 2023, the number of live births was 103 (3%) higher, and the number of deaths was 305 (5%) lower. In a year, the value of natural decrease changed from −3.2 per 1,000 population to −2.4.
More marriages and fewer divorces
In the last three months of 2024, 986 couples were married or 69 (8%) more than in the same quarter of 2023 and 575 couples were divorced or 7 (1%) fewer.
Increase in internal migration
In the fourth quarter of 2024, 29,829 people migrated internally, 7% more than in the same period of 2023.
Net migration of Slovenian citizens negative
In the observed quarter, 8,388 residents immigrated to Slovenia, 4% more than in the same period of 2023.
The number of emigrants decreased by 4% to 5,304. The number of emigrated citizens of Slovenia (1,217) was lower than the number of emigrated foreigners (4,087).
Positive net migration was recorded for foreign nationals (3,348 persons). Net migration of Slovene citizens was negative: 264 more emigrated from Slovenia than immigrated to it.
