The share of separately collected municipal waste higher
With green growth indicators we present environmental quality of life, environmental and resource productivity, natural asset base and economic opportunities and policy responses.
Presented below are the values of selected indicators, which, if not stated otherwise, refer to 2023.
Again a higher share of utilised agricultural area with organic farming, also higher share of separately collected municipal waste
The share of utilised agricultural area with organic farming or in conversion into such farming, however, increased by 0.3 of a percentage point, amounting to 11.4% of total utilised agricultural area. The share has been increasing every year since 2005, with the exception of 2020. The share of separately collected municipal waste (% of total collected) increased to 73.7%, which is 0.3 of a percentage point more than a year earlier.
Growing stock in forest and share of utilised agricultural area at the same level
The share of utilised agricultural area (of total Slovenian area) did not change, remaining at 23.7% for the third consecutive year. The amount of growing stock in forest remained unchanged for the third consecutive year at 303.5 m3 per hectare. The share of aquaculture in total fishing production decreased at the annual level by 2.4 percentage points to 91.4%. Non-metallic minerals accounted for 65.5% of the extracted domestic resources, which was 2.2 percentage points less than the year before. Biomass followed with 24.7% (up by 1.3 percentage points). Fossil energy materials represented the smallest share (9.8%, up by 0.9 of a percentage point). Extraction of domestic resources per capita went down by 0.1 tonne to 12.4 tonnes.
Gross nitrogen and phosphorus balance lower
The gross nitrogen balance surplus on utilised agricultural area was 34 kilograms per hectare, which is half of the previous year’s value. The gross phosphorus balance was neutral, meaning that inputs and outputs of phosphorus on utilised agricultural area were the same. A year before, the balance was positive at 3 kilograms per hectare.
Again more CO2 emissions in road transport
In 2022, CO2 emissions in road transport amounted to 2,499 kilograms of CO2 per capita, which was 3% more than a year earlier. In the subcategory of CO2 emissions in personal road transport (cars, motorcycles, etc.), they amounted to 1,250 kilograms of CO2 per capita. Compared to the previous year, they increased by 8%.
The share of environmental taxes lower again
The shares of government budgetary appropriations or outlays on research and development directed into the environment and energy decreased. The former by 2.6 percentage points to 3.6% and the latter by 1.3 percentage points to 3.6%. The share of environmental taxes decreased for the seventh consecutive year, this time by 0.2 of a percentage point to 7.6%.
