Self-sufficiency rates higher in all crop balances compared to the year before last
On average 143 kg of fruit, 113 kg of cereals, 104 kg of vegetables, 91 kg of meat, 78 kg of potatoes, 11 kg of eggs, 6 kg of rice and 1 kg of honey were available last year to a resident of Slovenia for consumption.
Significantly increased domestic production of fruit and honey
Last year was more favourable for fruit growers and beekeepers than the previous year. Domestic fruit production amounted to 91,000 tonnes, or 93% more than in 2023. Domestic honey production reached 1,000 tonnes, which is almost 4 times as much as the year before (290 tonnes).
Higher levels of self-sufficiency, except for meat and eggs
Compared to 2023, self-sufficiency rates increased for all crop balances, whereas for animal balances, the increase was observed only in honey. For crop balances, the self-sufficiency rate for cereals increased by 2 percentage points (to 81%), for potatoes by 3 p.p. (to 41%), for vegetables by 4 p.p. (to 37%) and for fruit by 11 p.p. (to 27%). For animal balances, the self-sufficiency rate increased only for honey, by 37 p.p. (to 51%), while for meat we saw a decrease of 4 p.p. (to 79%) and for eggs by 8 p.p. (to 87%).

More fruits, vegetables and meat available for consumption
Last year, a resident of Slovenia had on average 143 kg of fruit, 113 kg of cereals, 104 kg of vegetables, 91 kg of meat, 78 kg of potatoes, 11 kg of eggs, 6 kg of rice and 1 kg of honey available for consumption. Compared to the previous year, the largest annual increases in food availability were seen in fruit (+13 kg, 10%), meat (+4 kg, 5%), and vegetables (+2.6 kg, 3%). In other balances, the amount available for consumption remained at a similar level as in the previous year.

In the supply balance sheet of cereal, there was a minor revision in the item maize grain, namely in final stocks, due to data updates in 2023. As a result, the overall self-sufficiency rate decreased by 3 percentage points.
