The same as in the previous quarter, labour costs up in all sections of activities

As in the previous quarter, at the annual level, the labour costs per hour worked increased again in all sections of activities, the most in mining and quarrying.

In the 4th quarter of 2024, the labour costs per hour worked increased on average by 6.8% over the same quarter a year before (in the previous quarter they went up by 4.3% year-on-year). In the same period, earnings per hour worked increased by 7.0% and other labour costs per hour worked by 5.5%.

The labour costs per hour worked went up in all sections of activities. They increased the most in mining and quarrying (by 16.5%), followed by real estate activities (by 12.5%) and construction (by 10.4%). They increased the least in public administration and defence, compulsory social security (by 1.3%), followed by arts, entertainment and recreation (by 2.8%).

Except in Greece, in the 3rd quarter 2024, the labour costs higher in all EU Member States

According to Eurostat data, compared to the same quarter of the previous year, in the 3rd quarter of 2024 the labour costs per hour worked (agriculture, forestry and fishing excluded) were higher in all EU Member States, except in Greece, where they decreased by 1.5%. They increased the most in Romania (by 16.6%), followed by Croatia (by 14.8%) and Hungary (by 13.6%). In the same comparison, the labour costs per hour worked in the EU increased by 5.3%, in the euro area by 4.8% and in Slovenia by 5.7%.

Final data are expected to be published after the planned revision of the survey by the end of 2026.
