More hours worked year-on-year and annually

Compared to the last quarter of 2023, the number of hours worked went up by 3.6%. In 2024 as a whole, there were 1.7% more hours worked than in 2023.

In the last quarter of 2024, persons in paid employment in Slovenia who received a wage and/or a non-refunded wage compensation paid by the employer worked 317.4 million hours, 3.6% more than in the same quarter a year before. Compared to the previous quarter, the share of hours worked in paid hours went up by 0.7 of a percentage point to 76.1%.

The increase in the total number of hours worked was affected by several factors, among others a higher number of paid hours worked.

A person in paid employment worked on average more hours, too

A person in paid employment worked on average 130 hours per month, 3.7% (i.e. 5 working hours) more than in the last quarter of 2023.

Compared to the 4th quarter of 2023, the average monthly number of hours worked by a person in paid employment went up in all sections of activities. The increase was the highest in mining and quarrying (by 9.4%).

The highest number of hours worked by persons employed in human health and social work activities

The highest average monthly number of hours (135 or 5 more than the national average) in the observed quarter was worked by persons employed in human health and social work activities. The main reason was an increase in the number of paid and unpaid overtime hours worked.

In 2024, the highest number of hours was worked in human health and social work activities, in transportation and storage and in information and communication (135 hours).

The largest year-on-year increase in real estate activities

In the last quarter of 2024, the total number of hours worked was lower than in the same period of 2023 in almost all sections of activities. It went up the most in real estate activities (by 6.0%) and down the most in mining and quarrying (by 3.1%).
