In January 2025, less net electricity was generated than in January 2024
Compared to the same month last year, both electricity production and energy supply decreased in January.
Total net electricity generation and export lower than a year ago, import higher
In January 2025, total net electricity generation was 1,281 GWh. Compared to December, it increased less than 1%, and compared to January 2024 it decreased by 7%. Compared to the same month last year, generation in hydro power plants was 22% lower, in thermal power plants it was 3% lower, in solar and wind power plants it increased by 20% and in the nuclear power plant it was 1% higher.
In line with the lower production in thermal power plants, fuel consumption also decreased. Total fuel consumption was 1% lower than a year ago.
907 GWh of electricity was imported and 899 GWh was exported. Compared to the same month last year, import increased by 1% and export decreased by 8%.
Electricity consumption in business entities higher than in the previous month, in households lower
In January, households consumed 358 GWh and business entities 626 GWh of electricity. With 305 GWh consumed, manufacturing dominated. Compared to December, electricity consumption in households went down by 10%, while in business entities it went up by 3%.
Energy supply down at the monthly and annual level
Compared to December, the supply of energy commodities in general went down: of lignite and brown coal by 33%, of LPG by 11%, of transport diesel oil by 9%, of other petroleum products by 8%, and of motor gasoline by 6%. On the other hand, the supply of hard coal went up by 78%, of kerosene jet fuel by 39%, of coke oven coke by 9%, of Heating and Other Gasoil by 7%, and of Natural Gas by 5%.
Compared to last January, the supply of energy commodities decreased: of LPG by 20%, of Heating and Other Gasoil by 18%, of transport diesel oil by 16%, of coke oven coke by 9%, and of lignite and brown coal by 8%.
