Agricultural input price indices, December 2024

Agricultural input prices higher in December, but lower in the 4th quarter

In December, agricultural input prices increased at the monthly and at the annual level, while in the last quarter of 2024 they were slightly lower than in the previous quarter. At the monthly level, fertilizer prices went up the most.

Prices up at the monthly level …

Agricultural input prices increased on average by 0.4%. The prices of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture (input 1) went up by 0.7%, while the prices of goods and services contributing to agricultural investment (input 2) went down by 0.3%.

Within the first group (input 1), the prices went up in the following subgroups: fertilizers (by 2.5%), energy and lubricants (by 1.7%) and animal feedingstuffs (by 0.4%).

Within the second group (input 2), the prices of materials remained the same as in the previous month, while the prices of buildings decreased by 0.9%.

… as well as year-on-year after a longer period of decreasing prices 

Agricultural input prices were on average 1.7% higher than a year ago. This is the first price increase after April 2023. The prices of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture were up by 1.8% and of goods and services contributing to agricultural investment by 1.6%.

Compared to the previous year, the prices of seeds of crops went up the most (by 16.9%) and of plant protection products the least (by 0.1%).

In last year’s 4th quarter prices down

In the last quarter of 2024, the agricultural input prices were on average 0.4% lower than in the previous quarter and 0.7% lower than in the same period of 2023.

Compared to the third quarter, the prices of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture went down by 0.6%, while the prices of goods and services contributing to agricultural investment remained on average unchanged.

In the first group (input 1), the highest price decrease was recorded at animal feedingstuffs (by 1.5%), followed by fertilizers (by 1.1%) and maintenance of buildings (by 0.8%).
