White wines represented just over two thirds of the total wine production
In the observed marketing year, 35 litres of wine per person were available in Slovenia, of which 71% were white wines.
Wine self-sufficiency rate down, to 74%
Wine production in the 2023/2024 marketing year amounted to just under 550,000 hectolitres, which is 4% less than in the previous marketing year. Of this, white wines accounted for 69% of production.
Regarding the quality distinction, the wines with protected designation of origin represented the highest share in the total domestic production of wines, i.e. 344,000 hectolitres or 63% of the total wine production. Of this, white wines accounted for 231,000 hectolitres or 67%.
Amount available for consumption up by almost a quarter
The amount of wine available for consumption in the observed period amounted to 734,000 hectolitres, which is 24% more than in the previous marketing year. Of the total amount available, 71% (518,000 hectolitres) were white wines. The available amount of wine per person thus amounted to 35 litres, of which 24 liters were white wines.
Due to lower production and higher domestic consumption, the self-sufficiency rate decreased by 21 percentage points compared to the previous marketing year, from 95% to 74%.
