In December 2024, less net electricity was generated than in December 2023
Compared to the same month last year, electricity production in December 2024 decreased, but energy supply increased. Annual electricity consumption by type of customer and municipalities for 2024 have been published and for cohesion and statistical regions in households and business entities.
Total net electricity generation and export lower than a year ago, import higher
In December 2024, total net electricity generation was 1,275 GWh. Compared to November, it decreased by 5%, and compared to December 2023 it decreased by 4%. Compared to the same month last year, generation in hydro power plants was 45% lower, in thermal power plants it was 48% higher, in solar and wind power plants it increased by 58% and in the nuclear power plant it was 1% higher.
In line with the higher production in thermal power plants, fuel consumption also increased. Total fuel consumption was 43% higher than a year ago.
951 GWh of electricity was imported and 974 GWh was exported. Compared to the same month last year, import increased by 6% and export decreased by 7%.
Electricity consumption in households substantially higher than in the previous month, in business entities slightly lower
Households consumed 398 GWh and business entities 605 GWh of electricity. With 275 GWh consumed, manufacturing dominated. Compared to November, electricity consumption in households went up by 30%, while in business entities it went down by 3%.
Energy supply down at the monthly and up at the annual level
Compared to November, the supply of energy commodities in general went down: of Coke Oven Coke by 46%, of Hard Coal by 43%, of Heating and Other Gasoil by 26%, of Other Petroleum Products by 21%, of Transport Diesel Oil by 8%, and of Motor Gasoline by 16%. On the other hand, the supply of Natural Gas went up by 16%, of Kerosene Jet Fuel by 15%, of LPG by 12%, and of Lignite and Brown Coal by 10%.
