More cows’ milk collected than the previous December
More cows’ milk was collected from agricultural holdings this December than a year ago as well as in the whole year. Dairies increased the production of all milk products.
More milk collected year-on-year
Registered purchasers collected about 46,700 tonnes of cows’ milk in December. This was 6.2% more than in November and 4.4% more than in December 2023. In 2024 as a whole, the amount of purchased milk was 1.1% higher than the year before.
Dairies produced more milk products in December
Dairies increased the production of all groups of milk products. Butter production increased the most: by more than a third compared to November and by more than 9% compared to December 2023. Cream production increased by almost 18% compared to the previous month and by more than 9% compared to December 2023. Cheese production increased by more than 6% in both cases. The production of drinking milk was more than 28% higher than in the previous month and almost 2% higher than in December 2023. The production of acidified milk was almost 3% higher than in November 2024 and 8% higher than in December 2023.
In 2024, too, higher production of most milk products
In the last year as a whole, dairies produced 9% more cheese, more than 6% more cream and acidified milk, and almost 2% more butter than the year before. On the other hand, drinking milk production went down by more than 5%.
In the EU more milk collected in November
Dairies in the EU collected 1.7% more cows’ milk than last November. The quantity of collected milk increased the most in Ireland (by almost 34%), followed by Romania (by more than 11%) and Hungary (by more than 6%), and decreased the most in Finland, Belgium and Germany.
More dairy products in the EU in the first eleven months of 2024, except for butter and milk powder
From January to November of last year, dairies in the EU mostly produced more dairy products than in the same period the year before. The production of cream and acidified milk went up by around 4%, of cheese by about 3% and of drinking milk by 1%. On the other hand, butter production declined by just over 1% and milk powder production by around 1%.
The price of raw milk up in November
In November, the price of raw milk in the EU increased by 3.4% to EUR 0.534/kg. In December, the price is expected to increase further and then fall in January 2025.
