Natural decrease and positive net migration
In the third quarter the natural decrease and positive net migration continued. Total increase was 2,728.
Fewer live births and more deaths
In the third quarter of 2024, 4,452 live births and 5,200 deaths were recorded in Slovenia. Compared to the third quarter of 2023, the number of live births was 105 (2%) lower, and the number of deaths 310 (6%) higher. The number of deaths between July and September exceeded the number of births. Natural population change was negative: –748; per 1,000 population the value changed from –0.6 to –1.4.
Fewer marriages and fewer divorces
In the third quarter of 2024, 2,411 couples were married or 159 (6%) fewer than in the same quarter of 2023. 409 couples were divorced or 6 (1%) fewer than in the same quarter of 2023.
Increase in internal migration
In the third quarter of 2024, 29,125 people migrated internally, which is 6% more than in the same period of 2023.
Net migration of Slovenian citizens negative
Compared to the same period of 2023, the number of immigrants to Slovenia remained almost the same at 8,120 in the third quarter of 2024.The number of emigrants decreased by 18% to 4,644. The number of emigrated citizens of Slovenia (1,266) was lower than the number of emigrated foreigners (3,378).
Positive net migration was recorded for foreign nationals (2,612 persons) and for Slovene citizens (864).
