Deterioration month-on-month …

The consumer confidence indicator deteriorated by 2 percentage points (p.p.) compared to March, and it was 6 p.p. below the long-term average.

The monthly decrease in the confidence indicator resulted from more pessimistic consumer expectations for major purchases (lower by 3 p.p.), opinions on current households’ finances (by 2 p.p.), and expectations about households’ finances (also by 2 p.p.). Expectations about the country’s economy remained at the level of the previous month.

… as well as year-on-year

Compared to last year’s April, the value of the consumer confidence indicator was 4 p.p. lower, and it was 3 p.p. below last year’s average.

All four components of the consumer confidence indicator deteriorated at the annual level: expectations about the country’s economy by 8 p.p., opinions on current households’ finances by 4 p.p., expectations about households’ finances by 2 p.p., and expectations for major purchases by 1 p.p.

Consumers’ intentions down for car purchase

Compared to the previous quarter, consumers’ expectations about car purchase deteriorated (by 2 p.p.), while expectations about home purchase and about home improvements improved (by 2 and 1 p.p., respectively).
