More cows’ milk collected than last November

More cows’ milk was collected from agricultural holdings this November than a year ago as well as in the first eleven months of this year compared to the same period last year. Dairies produced more butter and less all other milk products.

More milk collected year-on-year

Registered purchasers collected about 44,000 tonnes of cows’ milk. This was 3.7% less than in October and 4.1% more than in November 2023. In the first eleven months, the amount of purchased milk was 0.8% higher than last year in the same period.

With the exception of butter, dairies produced less milk products
 
Dairies produced 240 tonnes of butter in November, which is almost 14% more than in the previous month and almost 3% more than in November 2023. Production of other groups of milk products decreased. Compared to the previous month, dairies produced almost a fifth less acidified milk, around 14% less cream and cheese, and almost 8% less drinking milk. Compared to November 2023, the production of drinking milk decreased by more than 14%, of cream by more than 10%, of acidified milk by almost 7% and of cheese by around 3%. 
 
In the first eleven months, higher production of most milk products

Between January and November, dairies produced more than 9% more cheese, more than 6% more cream and acidified milk, and almost 1% more butter than in the same period last year. On the other hand, drinking milk production went down by 6%. 

In the EU more milk collected this October

Dairies in the EU collected 0.7% more cows’ milk than last October. The quantity of collected milk increased the most in Ireland (by almost 15%), followed by Hungary (by almost 8%) and Estonia (by more than 6%), and decreased the most in Latvia, Belgium and Germany.

More dairy products in the EU in the first ten months, except for butter and milk powder

From January to October, dairies in the EU mostly produced more dairy products than in the same period last year. The production of cream and acidified milk increased by around 4%, of cheese by around 3% and of drinking milk by almost 1%. On the other hand, butter production declined by just over 1% and milk powder production also decreased around 1%.

The price of raw milk up in October
 
In October, the price of raw milk in the EU increased by 4.2% to EUR 0.517/kg. In November, the price is expected to increase further and then fell slightly in December.
