More hours worked

In the third quarter of this year, persons in paid employment in Slovenia who received a wage and/or a non-refunded wage compensation paid by the employer worked 332.4 million hours, 3.7% more than in the same quarter last year. The share of hours worked in paid hours increased by 5.1 percentage points to 80.0%.

The increase in the total number of hours worked was affected by several factors, including a higher number of paid hours worked.

A person in paid employment worked on average five hours more

On average, a person in paid employment worked 137 hours per month, i.e. five working hours more than a year ago.

The average monthly number of hours worked by a person in paid employment went up in all activities, the most in agriculture, forestry and fishing (by 6.5%). The lowest increase was recorded in public administration and defence and compulsory social security (by 0.8%).

The highest number of hours again worked in agriculture, forestry and fishing

The highest average monthly number of hours (146 or 9 more than the national average) was worked by persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing. The main reason was a higher number of paid and unpaid overtime hours worked.

The largest increase in real estate activities

Compared to the same quarter of last year, the total number of hours worked went up the most in real estate activities (by 8.1%) and in education and human health and social work activities (by 8.0%). It went down the most in mining and quarrying (by 2.3%).
