More cows’ milk collected than last October
More cows’ milk was collected from agricultural holdings this October than a year ago as well as in the first ten months of this year compared to the same period last year. Dairies increased the production of all milk products except milk powder.
More milk collected year-on-year
Registered purchasers collected about 45,600 tonnes of cows’ milk. This was 2.7% more than in September and 2.8% more than in October 2023. In the first ten months, the amount of milk purchased was 0.5% higher than last year in the same period.
Higher production of milk products
Dairies increased the production of all milk products in October. They produced almost 18% more butter, just over 8% more cheese, 4% more acidified milk and 3% more cream. In addition, drinking milk production was slightly higher.
At the monthly level, too, more milk products produced
Compared to September, dairies increased the production of butter by almost 22%. The production of cheese, drinking milk and cream went up by around 14%, and the production of acidified milk by slightly less than 5%.
In the first ten months, higher production of most milk products
Dairies produced almost 11% more cheese, 8% more cream and just over 7% more acidified milk than last year between January and October. On the other hand, drinking milk production decreased by more than 5%, while butter production remained almost the same.
In the EU less milk collected this September
Dairies in the EU collected 0.2% less cows’ milk than last September. The quantity of collected milk increased the most in France, Austria and Hungary, and decreased the most in Germany and the Netherlands.

From January to September, dairies in the EU mostly produced more dairy products than in the same period last year. The production of acidified milk increased by 4%, of cream and cheese by around 3% and of drinking milk by almost 1%. On the other hand, the production of butter declined by slightly more than 2% and of milk powder by just under 1%.
The price of raw milk up in September
In September, the price of raw milk in the EU increased by 4.3% to EUR 0.496/kg. In October and November, the price is expected to increase slightly.
