Again more persons in employment
In September, the number of persons in employment increased both monthly and annually. Compared to the previous quarter, in the third quarter their number decreased by 0.2% to about 944,500.

More persons in paid employment as well as self-employed persons
After three consecutive monthly declines, the number of persons in employment increased in September, reaching just over 944,500. Compared to the previous month, it grew by around 2,700 or 0.3%. Of these, the number of persons in paid employment increased by slightly more than 2,300 and the number of self-employed persons by just over 300.
At the monthly level, the number of women in employment went up slightly more than the number of men, due to an increase in education, where most of the employees are women. The number of women in employment rose by about 1,400 or 0.3% and the number of men by nearly 1,300 or 0.2%.
Compared to September of the previous year, the number of persons in employment was higher by 1.2%, with a larger increase among men (1.7%) than women (0.5%).
Fewer persons in employment in the 3rd quarter
In comparison to the second quarter, the number of persons in employment decreased by 0.2% or by just over 1,700. Compared to the first quarter, there were slightly more persons in employment, i.e. just over 200. The number of persons in paid employment was lower in the third quarter compared to the previous two. Compared to the second quarter, the number of persons in paid employment decreased by 0.3% (nearly 2,600) and compared to the first quarter by 0.1% (approximately 1,200). The number of self-employed persons continued to grow, increasing by 0.8% (over 800) since the second quarter and by 1.2% (almost 1,500) since the first quarter.
Growth in most sections of activities, the largest in education
On a monthly basis, the number of persons in employment increased in 14 sections of activities and decreased in six. As it is typical for September, the largest growth was observed in education, where the number of persons in employment rose to just under 80,500, which is an increase of around 1,100 or 1.4% over the previous month. The largest decrease was recorded in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, with just over 100 fewer employed, a decline of 0.1%.
Year-over-year, the largest increase was observed in construction, where the number of persons in employment rose by 5.9%. Overall, an increase was observed in 13 sections of activities and a decrease in seven.
