Value of trade in goods higher both in September and in the first nine months
Exports and imports in September were higher than a year ago. Slovenia’s most important market was Switzerland, and the largest share of total exports and imports was contributed by chemical products.

Highest growth in exports to Switzerland and imports from the United States of America
In the observed month, Slovenia’s most important markets were Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Croatia in terms of export value, and Switzerland, the United States of America, Germany and China in terms of import value.
Compared to a year ago, the increase was the largest in the value of exports to Switzerland, followed by the Russian Federation and Croatia, and in the value of imports from the United States of America, followed by Switzerland and Germany. In trade with EU non-member countries, growth rates were affected by high values of operations involving processing1.
External trade in goods up in the first nine months
The value of external trade in goods increased in the 1st and 2nd quarters, while in the 3rd quarter it started to decline. Despite this decrease, growth was still recorded at the level of the first nine months. Compared to the same period last year, exports went up by 11.0% to EUR 45.5 billion and imports by 13.5% to EUR 48.6 billion.
External trade deficit amounted to EUR 3.1 billion in the observed period, while the export-import ratio was 93.6%.
The largest share of total exports and imports was contributed (according to the Standard International Trade Classification – SITC) by chemical products, followed by machinery and transport equipment, and manufactured goods classified chiefly by material.

- Value up by 12.8% compared to a year ago.
- The increase in value was more significant in trade with EU non-member countries (by 24.9%) than in trade with EU Member States (by 2.3%). To EU non-member countries, without operations involving processing1, it amounted to EUR 888.2 million and was higher by 7.1%.
- Value up by 3.9%.
- From EU Member States down by 1.0% and in trade with EU non-member countries up by 8.5%. Without operations involving processing1, the value of imports from the latter increased by 11.5% to EUR 788.0 million.
