Livestock slaughter in slaughterhouses, August 2024
Fewer pigs, cattle and poultry slaughtered in August
About 3,600,000 poultry, 14,700 pigs and 6,100 cattle were slaughtered in Slovenian slaughterhouses in August. In this way, about 6,300 tonnes of poultry meat, 1,200 tonnes of pig meat, and 1,900 tonnes of bovine meat were gained.
Less meat gained at the monthly level, slaughter of pigs with the largest decrease
Compared to July, the slaughter of pigs went down by about 16% (by about 2,700 animals), of cattle by 7% (by about 450 animals) and of poultry by 6% (by about 230,000 animals).
The total amount of meat gained in slaughterhouses was about 7% lower. The total carcass weight of slaughtered pigs went down by about 19% or about 288 tonnes, of cattle by 7% or about 142 tonnes, and of poultry by 4% or about 236 tonnes.
