European Statistics Day
Introducing the publication EU Countries Interactively, 2024 edition
On this year's European Statistics Day, the updated publication presents Eurostat data across five thematic areas for all 27 EU Member States.
Official Statistics, a Window for Understanding Society
On the European Statistics Day, which is celebrated every year on 20 October, this year's motto is Official Statistics, a Window for Understanding Society. Official statistics are a key source of data that help us to better understand social processes and changes. Through collected and analysed data, we gain insights into various aspects of life, from the economy, education, and labour markets to demographic trends. This year’s motto emphasizes the importance of monitoring these social phenomena, as this enables us to make more informed decisions, both personally and at the national level. In this way, we can identify social challenges as well as opportunities for development and progress.
This day is also an opportunity to raise awareness among the general and professional public about the importance of official statistics as a basis for informing and decision-making. With this publication, we want to highlight that statistical data are not only useful but also interesting and accessible to everyone.
