Labour costs annually up by 9.7%

Average monthly labour costs per person in paid employment amounted to EUR 3,015. They were the lowest in other service activities, and the highest in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply.

Average monthly labour costs per person in paid employment for 2023 amounted to EUR 3,015, which is an increase of 9.7% over the previous year. The highest share in the labour costs was that of employee’s incomes, 86.5%.

The highest in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply

Average monthly labour costs per person in paid employment were the highest in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (EUR 4,753), followed by financial and insurance activities (EUR 4,409), and the lowest in other service activities (EUR 2,262), followed by accommodation and food service activities (EUR 2,365).

In the EU-27, the highest in Luxembourg and the lowest in Bulgaria

According to Eurostat’s data and methodology (all activities, except agriculture, forestry and fishing and public administration and defence, compulsory social security, and in business entities with more than 9 employees), average labour costs per hour worked were the highest in Luxembourg (EUR 53.9), followed by Denmark (EUR 48.1) and Belgium (EUR 47.1); the EU-27 average was EUR 31.8. For the same period the lowest average labour costs per hour worked were recorded in Bulgaria (EUR 9.3), followed by Romania (EUR 11.0). In Slovenia average labour costs per hour worked in the mentioned activities and business entities amounted to EUR 25.5, which ranked our country between Italy (EUR 29.8) and Spain (EUR 24.6).
