Consumer prices up by 0.6% annually, monthly the same

Annual price growth is still getting lower/easing. In September, consumer prices were 0.6% higher than the year before. At the monthly level, the prices on average stayed unchanged.

Annual inflation below 1% for the second consecutive month

Price growth at the annual level decreased again, to 0.6% in September.

In one year, service prices increased on average by 3.9%, while goods prices decreased by 1.0%. As regards goods, durable and non-durable goods prices went down by 1.3% and 1.1%, respectively, while semi-durable goods prices went up by 0.1%.

The annual growth rate was pushed up the most (by 0.4 of a percentage point) by 3.9% higher prices in the group recreation and culture. 0.3 p.p. each was contributed by higher prices in the groups alcoholic beverages and tobacco (by 4.9%), health (by 4.7%), restaurants and hotels (by 4.2%), and food and non-alcoholic beverages (by 1.5%).

On the other hand, the annual inflation rate was reduced by 1 p.p. by 6.1% lower prices in the group housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.

At the monthly level, prices on average unchanged


Summer sales of clothing and change for autumn–winter collection resulted in 16.6% higher prices of clothing, which inflated the monthly prices by 0.7 p.p. On the other hand, with the end of the summer season, prices of package holidays dropped by 12.3%, which reduced the inflation by 0.6 p.p.

Monthly consumer price indices were additionally deflated by 0.1 p.p. from each of the price drops in the groups accommodation services (by 5.5%), operation of personal transport equipment (by 1.4%) and electricity, gas and other fuels, in which the biggest price drop (by 8.4%) came from solid fuels.

Monthly inflation in September on average stayed the same also due to higher prices of newspapers, books and stationary (by 5.4%). The mentioned group as well as all other price increases in September each added 0.1 p.p.

Harmonised indices of consumer prices

Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, this September the annual growth of consumer prices was 0.7% (a year ago 7.1%). The monthly price growth stood at 0.2%.

In one year, service prices went up on average by 4.6% and goods prices down by 1.5%. Durable goods prices went down by 2.2%, non-durable goods prices by 1.5% and semi-durable goods prices by 0.3%.

Annual inflation rates in August 2024 for all EU-27 Member States are available here. Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, in August the annual inflation rate in the EMU countries was 2.2% (a month before 2.6%). In the EU-27 Member States it was 2.4% (a month before 2.8%). The lowest annual inflation rate was recorded in Lithuania (0.8%) and the highest in Romania (5.3%); in Slovenia it stood at 1.1%.
