In August, the highest monthly number of tourist overnight stays ever
In August, there were almost 1.2 million tourist arrivals and almost 3.3 million overnight stays in accommodation establishments in Slovenia. The number of the latter was 14% larger than a year ago and 8% larger than in August 2022, so fat the most successful month in terms of tourism.
More domestic and foreign tourists
Domestic tourists generated almost 187,000 arrivals (16% more than last August) and just over 633,000 overnight stays (7% more). They spent the largest number of nights in municipality Piran, followed by municipalities Izola, Brežice and Ankaran.
As in July, the largest number of overnight stays among domestic tourists, 18%, was generated by children in the age group of 7–14 years (time of summer school holidays). Their average length of stay was 3.8 nights.
Foreign tourists generated just over 996,000 arrivals (19% more than last August) and 2.6 million overnight stays (16% more). They spent the largest number of nights in municipality Ljubljana, followed by municipalities Piran and Bled, which are usually the most popular among foreign tourists. Just over a third of foreign overnight stays was generated in these three municipalities.
The largest number of overnight stays among foreign tourists was generated in the age group 35–44 years. The average length of stay for this group was 2.7 nights.

Tourists from Germany generated a fifth of foreign overnight stays
The largest number of overnight stays among foreign tourists was generated by tourists from Germany, almost 524,000 or 20% of all foreign overnight stays. As in last August, they spent the largest number of their nights in municipality Bovec. The most represented age group was 35–44 years.
Tourists from Italy generated just over 250,000 overnight stays (10% of all foreign overnight stays). As in last August, they spent the largest number of their nights in municipality Ljubljana. The largest number of overnight stays was generated in the age group 45–54 years.
Almost 242,000 overnight stays (9% of all foreign overnight stays) were generated by tourists from the Netherlands, who again spent the largest number of their nights in municipality Radovljica. The most represented age group was 7–14 years.
Compared to the year before, among tourists with the largest numbers of overnight stays, this number increased the most for tourists from Hungary (by 34%), Czechia (by 21%) and Germany (by 19%).

In mountain resorts almost 1.3 million overnight stays
In mountain resorts 39% of tourist overnight stays were recorded, the most popular being municipality Bled. They were followed by seaside resorts (20%), with Piran being the most popular, and health (spa) resorts (14%), with Brežice as the most popular municipality. 12% of all overnight stays were generated in municipality Ljubljana.
While in last August domestic tourists generated the largest share of overnight stays in seaside resorts, this year they spent the largest share of nights in health (spa) resorts (33% of domestic overnight stays). Foreign tourists, as in last August, most often opted for mountain resorts (43% of foreign overnight stays).
Compared to the previous August, among the mentioned types of municipalities, the number of tourist overnight stays went up the most in mountain resorts (by 19%).
29% growth of overnight stays in camping sites
Tourists generated the largest number of overnight stays in hotels (almost 965,000 or 30% of all overnight stays), followed by private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings (29%) and camping sites (23%).
Compared to last August, the number of overnight stays in hotels went up by 9%, in private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings by 12% and in camping sites by 29%, taking into account the disruption to the operation of some accommodation establishments as a result of last year's extensive floods in Slovenia.
In the first eight months 4% more overnight stays
This year tourists generated almost 4.8 million arrivals (6% more than in the same period last year) and 12.5 million overnight stays (4% more).
Foreign tourists generated 75% of all overnight stays. The largest number was generated by tourists from Germany, followed by tourists from Italy and Austria. Domestic tourists generated almost 3.2 million overnight stays, 1% fewer than in the same period last year, and foreign tourists 9.3 million, which was 6% more.
