More hours worked in the second quarter
Compared to the second quarter of 2023, the number of hours worked went up. The share of hours worked in paid hours decreased.
Slightly more hours worked
In the second quarter of this year, persons in paid employment in Slovenia who received a wage and/or a non-refunded wage compensation paid by the employer worked 308.7 million hours, 1.0% more than in the same quarter last year. On the other hand, the share of hours worked in paid hours decreased by 4.8 percentage points to 74.9%.
The increase in the total number of hours worked was affected by several factors, among others a higher number of paid hours worked.
A person in paid employment worked on average one hour more
On average, a person in paid employment worked 126 hours per month, i.e. 1 working hour more than a year ago.
The average monthly number of hours worked by a person in paid employment went up the most in public administration and defence, compulsory social security (by 8.5%) and in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (by 8.4%). The highest decrease was recorded in mining and quarrying (by 4.1%).
The highest number of hours worked in agriculture, forestry and fishing
The highest average monthly number of hours (135 or 9 more than the national average) was worked by persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing. The main reason was a higher number of paid and unpaid overtime hours worked.
The largest annual decrease in mining and quarrying
In the second quarter of 2024, the total number of hours worked increased the most in public administration and defence, compulsory social security (by 8.9%) and in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (by 8.8%) compared to the same quarter last year. On the other hand, it went down the most in mining and quarrying (by 6.8%).

Data are not seasonally adjusted.
With the publication of data for the 2nd quarter of 2024, we started using as one of the data sources the results of the statistical survey Earnings, which replaced the survey Earnings of persons in paid employment by legal persons (ZAP/M). Based on the new data source, we recalculated data for the first quarter of 2024.
