Pesticides sale, 2023
Last year the lowest amount of active substances in plant protection products in the last decade
According to chemical class, most of the active substances sold in Slovenia in 2023 were in inorganic fungicides (325 tonnes), followed by other fungicides and bactericides (158 tonnes), other herbicides (97 tonnes) and phthalimide-based fungicides (96 tonnes).
Amount of active substances in plant protection products around 15% lower than in the previous year
About 718 tonnes of active substances in plant protection products were sold in 2023, which is about 15% less than a year before and about 20% less than the five-year average (898 tonnes). In the last ten years this was the lowest amount on record.
Compared to the year before, the amount of active substances decreased in five main groups of plant protection products, namely in the group of fungicides and bactericides by around 16%, in the group of herbicides also by around 16%, in the group of plant growth regulators by around 8%, in the group of other plant protection products (rodenticides, oils, soil sterilisation compounds) by 6% and in the group of insecticides and acaricides by around 3%.
On the other hand, the amount of active substances increased by about 102% in the group of molluscicides.
As regards sales, most active substances still in fungicides
In total, 527 tonnes of active substances in fungicides were sold in 2023. Major contributors were inorganic sulphur at 263 tonnes, phthalimide fungicides at 95 tonnes and copper compound fungicides at 36 tonnes.
In addition, 140 tonnes of active substances in herbicides were sold in Slovenia in 2023. Organophosphorus herbicides was the largest group with 66 tonnes of total amount sold. There were 38 tonnes of active substances in insecticides, and the largest share (30 tonnes) was represented by the group of other insecticides and acaricides. On the other hand, molluscicides (3 tonnes), plant growth regulators (6 tonnes) and other plant protection products (5 tonnes) were the least represented pesticide groups in terms of active substances sold.
