Livestock slaughter in slaughterhouses, June 2024
Less meat gained than in the previous month
About 3,600,000 poultry, 15,400 pigs and 6,400 cattle were slaughtered in Slovenian slaughterhouses in June. In this way, about 6,300 tonnes of poultry meat, 1,400 tonnes of pig meat, and 2,000 tonnes of bovine meat were gained.
Compared to May, the slaughter of cattle went down by about 23% (by about 1,900 animals), of sheep and horses by 13% (about 120 and 6 animals), and of poultry and pigs by 2% (about 82,800 and 300 animals).
The total amount of meat gained in slaughterhouses was about 8% lower. The total carcass weight of slaughtered cattle went down by about 21% or by about 534 tonnes, of pigs by 8% or about 112 tonnes, of poultry by about 6% or about 240 tonnes, of sheep by about 4% or about 0.3 tonnes and of horses by about 16% or 2 tonnes.

Also less meat gained than a year ago, slight increase only with horses
Compared to June 2023, the slaughter of sheep went down by about 20%, of cattle by about 17%, of pigs about 13% and of poultry by 1%, while the slaughter of horses went up by 3%.
The total amount of meat gained in slaughterhouses declined by about 7%. The total carcass weight of slaughtered cattle went down by about 16%, of pigs by about 14%, of sheep by 5% and of poultry by 3%. On the other hand, the total carcass weight of slaughtered horses went up by 13%.
