Slightly less cows’ milk collected than last July
Less cows’ milk was collected from agricultural holdings this July than a year ago. In the same comparison, dairies increased the production of all milk products except drinking milk.
Quantity of collected milk still slightly below last year’s level
Registered purchasers collected about 47,300 tonnes of cows’ milk. This was 0.3% less than in June and 0.8% less than in July 2023. In the first seven months, the amount of milk purchased was only 0.3% lower than last year in the same period.
Record-high production of acidified milk products
In the observed month, dairies produced record-braking almost 5,000 tonnes of acidified milk products. That is a more than 8% increase over July 2023. Compared to July 2023 also the production of butter strongly increased (by almost 44%), of cheese by almost 27% and of cream by 17%. However, the high increase is mostly due to very low production a year ago. Drinking milk production was 6% lower than in July 2023.
At the monthly level, too, an increase in production of most milk products
Compared to June, dairies also increased the production of all groups of milk products except cream. The production of acidified milk increased by more than 12%, of butter by almost 7%, of drinking milk by around 5% and of cheese by almost 4%. Cream production decreased by almost 6%.
In the EU, more milk collected this June
Dairies in the EU collected 0.9% more cows’ milk than last June. The quantity of collected milk increased the most in France, Poland and Italy, and decreased the most in the Netherlands, Ireland and Bulgaria.
Mostly more dairy products in the EU in the first six months
From January to June, dairies in the EU mostly produced more dairy products than in the same period last year. The production of cream and acidified milk increased by around 4% each, of cheese by more than 3% and of drinking milk by 1%. On the other hand, 2% less butter was produced.
The price of raw milk up in June
In June, the price of raw milk in the EU increased by 0.1% to EUR 0.460/kg. In July and August, it is expected to increase further.
