Gross domestic product, 2nd quarter 2024
GDP up by 0.7% at the annual level
In the 2nd quarter of 2024, we observed a slowdown in economic activity. GDP grew by 0.7%, and 1.4% from January to June 2024 compared to the same period of 2023.
Domestic expenditure up
Compared to last year’s 2nd quarter, domestic expenditure increased by 5.5%, of which final consumption expenditure went up by 4.2% and gross capital formation by 10.2%. Household final consumption expenditure was higher by 1.1%, while gross fixed capital formation decreased by 1.6%. As regards decline of the latter, a decrease in investment into buildings and structures had the largest impact (down by 4.0%).
Imports up, exports down
Imports increased by 4.4%; imports of goods went up by 4.9% while the increase in imports of services was less prominent (2.1%). Exports went down by 0.8%, of which exports of goods decreased by 0.5% and exports of services by 1.7%. The external trade balance contribution to GDP growth was negative at 4.1 percentage points.
Revision announcement
In September 2024 – as required by the revision policy – quarterly GDP data will be revised in the entire time series, i.e. from 1995 onwards.
