In July largest number of births this year but fewer than a year ago
According to provisional data for July, natural decrease was recorded again: 227 more people died than were born. Compared to the same month of previous year, the number of live births went down by 3% and the number of deaths up by 2%.
The number of live births down
In the seventh month of this year, 1,506 children were born in Slovenia, which was 43 or 3% fewer than in July 2023. On average 49 children were born per day (one fewer than in July 2023).
More deaths
In the observed month, 1,733 residents of Slovenia died. This was 38 (2%) more than in July 2023. On average 56 people died each day (compared to 55 in the same month of 2023).
What do data for August 2024 indicate?
According to the first estimate, 991 residents of Slovenia died between 1 and 18 August 2024. In the same period of last year, this number was lower (947 residents).
