Births outnumbered by deaths, net migration positive
Similarly to the last quarter of 2023, significantly more deaths than births were recorded in the first quarter of this year.
Fewer live births and more deaths
In the first quarter of 2024, 3,925 live births and 5,947 deaths were recorded in Slovenia. Compared to the first quarter of 2023, the number of live births was 126 (3%) lower, and the number of deaths 103 (2%) higher. In a year, the value of natural decrease changed from −3.4 per 1,000 population to −3.8 per 1,000 population.
More marriages and fewer divorces
In the observed period, 717 couples were married and 467 couples were divorced. Compared to the first quarter of 2023, the number of marriages went up by 10 (1%), while the number of divorces went down by 101 (18%).
Decrease in internal migration
In the first quarter of 2024, 27,315 people migrated internally, which is 12% fewer than in the same period of 2023.
Fewer immigrants and fewer emigrants
Compared to the same period of 2023, the number of immigrants to Slovenia decreased by 8% to 8,523. The number of emigrants decreased by 15% to 5,741. The number of citizens of Slovenia who emigrated abroad (1,282) was lower than the number of foreigners (4,459).
Positive net migration was recorded for foreign nationals (3,156 persons), while 374 Slovene citizens more emigrated from Slovenia than immigrated to it.
