The value of external trade in goods with EU Member States down, with EU non-member countries up

Exports and imports in May were higher than a year ago. The value of external trade in goods grew only with EU non-member countries.

Key statistics for May 

Exports (EUR 5.0 billion):
  • Compared to May 2023, the value increased by 2.4%.
  • The value of exports to EU Member States went down by 4.4% and to EU non-member countries up by 10.7%; without operations involving processing1, exports to this group of countries increased by 7.8% to EUR 872 million. 
Imports (EUR 5.6 billion):
  • The value went up by 5.1% compared to the previous year.
  • The value of imports from EU Member States went down by 2.8% and from EU non-member countries up by 13.8%; without operations involving processing1, imports from the latter decreased by 3.0% to EUR 791 million.
The export-import ratio was 90.4%. Slovenia generated a deficit of EUR 0.5 million in external trade in goods.

The value of external trade in goods with EU-27 Member States down at the annual level

Both values of trade in goods with EU Member States went down compared to previous May, exports by 4.4% and imports by 2.8%. Slovenia exported 51.4% of total exports to this group of countries and imported 48.3% of total imports from this group of countries.

In this month, Slovenia exported the largest share of goods value to Germany (24.2%), followed by Croatia (16.1%), Italy (14.7%) and Austria (8.0%), and imported the largest share of goods from Germany (23.4%), followed by Italy (19.9%) and Austria (11.7%) and Croatia (8.2%).

External trade in the first five months up 

In the first five months, exports amounted to EUR 25.4 billion and imports to EUR 27.2 billion, which was 10.2% and 12.8% more than in the same period of last year.

External trade deficit amounted to EUR 1.8 billion, while the export-import ratio was 93.5%.
