In 2023, 955 high-growth enterprises
In 2023, 955 high-growth enterprises (in terms of the growth in the number of employees) were operating in Slovenia or 16.3% more than the year before.They employed 50,061 persons or 16.6% more.
Last year, 16.3% more high-growth enterprises than a year earlier
Among enterprises in industry, construction and business services that employed at least 10 persons, there were 955 high-growth enterprises in 2023 (in terms of the number of employees) or 16.3% more than a year earlier.
The annual growth was contributed by an increase in the number of these enterprises in manufacturing (by 30), in professional, scientific and technical activities (by 21), in accommodation and food service activities (by 19), in transportation and storage (by 15) and in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles (by 14).
The vast majority of high-growth enterprises (more than two-thirds) belonged to the following four sections of activities: manufacturing, construction, wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles, and transportation and storage.
16.6% more employees in high-growth enterprises
High-growth enterprises employed 50,061 persons in 2023, which is 16.6% more than in the previous year. The number of employees in these enterprises increased the most in manufacturing (by 3,542), followed by wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles (by 1,359) and administrative and support service activities (by 878).
Almost half of the employees in high-growth enterprises engaged in business services
Among high-growth enterprises, those in business services employed the largest number of persons (49.2%), followed by enterprises in industry (39.8%) and in construction (11.0%).
The average number of employed persons in a high-growth enterprise was the same as the year before, i.e. 52.
The number of gazelles 3.9% higher
There were 80 gazelles (high-growth enterprises up to 5 years old), which represents 8.4% of high-growth enterprises. Their number went up by 3.9% on an annual basis. There were 6 more in accommodation and food service activities, and 3 more in manufacturing.
More than half of gazelles in construction and manufacturing
The largest number of gazelles belonged to construction (26 enterprises or 32.5%), followed by manufacturing (20 enterprises or 25.0%) and administrative and support service activities (10 enterprises or 12.5%).

Gazelles employed 3,619 persons, which was 9.3% more than a year earlier. Gazelles employed the most persons in manufacturing (34.4% of persons), followed by construction (25.4% of persons) and administrative and support service activities (13.0% of persons).The number of employees in these enterprises increased the most in manufacturing (by 249), followed by construction (by 201) and accommodation and food service activities (by 112).
