A slightly larger area sown with winter cereals in autumn 2023
Winter cereals and oil turniprape were sown on about 64,000 hectares or 3% more than in autumn 2022. The area sown with winter cereals increased and the area sown with oil turniprape decreased.
Area sown with bread and fodder cereals slightly larger than in the previous autumn
Compared to autumn 2022, the area sown with bread cereals (wheat, spelt and rye) and the area sown with fodder cereals (barley, triticale and oats) increased by 4%. Winter cereals were sown on around 61,000 hectares of arable land.
Area sown with winter bread cereals (wheat, spelt and rye) increased by 3% to around 32,000 hectares of arable land. Bread cereals were sown on 52% of all area sown with winter cereals. Area sown with wheat increased by 3% to almost 30,000 hectares. Compared to the year before, the area of winter spelt increased by 13% to around 540 hectares. Winter rye was sown on about the same area (1,209 hectares).
Slightly more winter fodder cereals
Winter fodder cereals were sown on 4% larger area than in the previous autumn, in total on around 29,100 hectares. Winter barley is still the most common fodder cereal. In autumn 2023, it was sown on almost 23,000 hectares, i.e. 6% larger area than a year earlier. Triticale covered a similar-sized area (5,735 hectares) as in the previous year. Oats was sown the least among fodder cereals, 11% less than in the previous autumn, on 470 hectares.
Area sown with oil turniprape again slightly smaller
The area sown with the winter oil turniprape decreased for the third consecutive year; in autumn 2023, a little over 3,000 hectares of arable land were sown, which is 10% less than a year earlier.
