Sentiment indicator slightly up
Confidence indicators did not change much in January and consequently had little impact on the sentiment indicator.
Slight improvement at the monthly level ….
The sentiment indicator reached −3.2 percentage points (p.p.), and was 0.3 p.p. higher than the month before (−3.4 p.p.). The average in 2023 was 4.4 p.p. lower than in the previous year.
The sentiment indicator was positively influenced by the confidence indicator among consumers (by 0.7 p.p.) and in retail trade (by 0.1 p.p.). On the other hand, it was negatively influenced by the confidence indicator in manufacturing and services (each by 0.2 p.p.) and in construction (by 0.1 p.p.).
… but lower at the annual level
Compared to last January, the value of the sentiment indicator decreased by 2.1 p.p.
The annual decline was influenced by confidence indicators in manufacturing (by 1.6 p.p.), services (by 1.5 p.p.), construction (by 0.3 p.p.) and retail trade (by 0.1 p.p.). Only the consumer confidence indicator had a positive impact (by 1.5 p.p.).
