Consumers more pessimistic

In September, Slovenian consumers were more pessimistic about the economic situation in the country.

Lower at the monthly level …

The value of the consumer confidence indicator decreased by 4 percentage points (p.p.) compared to August, and was 5 p.p. below the long-term average.

The monthly decrease in the confidence indicator resulted mainly from more pessimistic consumer expectations about the country’s economy (lower by 11 p.p.). To a lesser extent, consumer opinion on current households’ finances and expectations about households’ finances also deteriorated (by 3 and 1 p.p., respectively), while expectations about major purchases improved (by 1 p.p.).

… but higher at the annual level

The consumer confidence indicator improved by 5 p.p. compared to last year’s September.

The annual increase in the confidence indicator resulted from more optimistic opinions on current households’ finances (by 10 p.p.), expectations about households’ finances (also by 10 p.p.), and expectations about the country’s economy (by 1 p.p.). Only expectations about major purchases slightly deteriorated (by 1 p.p.).

The data are based on the Consumer Survey, which was answered by 761 persons between 1 and 15 September 2024.
