More hours worked
Compared to the 3rd quarter of last year, the number of hours worked went up. The share of hours worked in paid hours was also higher.
Increase mostly due to fewer hours of annual leave
In the 3rd quarter of 2023, persons in paid employment in Slovenia who received a wage and/or a non-refunded wage compensation paid by the employer worked 320.5 million hours, 4.5% more than in the same quarter of 2022. Compared to the previous quarter, the share of hours worked in paid hours increased to 78.9%.
The increase in the total number of hours worked was affected by a higher number of paid hours worked and a lower number of annual leave hours used.
A person in paid employment worked on average more hours
A person in paid employment worked on average 132 hours per month, 3.6% more (i.e. 5 working hours) than in the same quarter of 2022. This was mainly due to a lower number of used annual leave hours.
Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2022, the average monthly number of hours worked by a person in paid employment went up in almost all activities, only in construction it stayed the same. The increase was the highest in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (by 11.1%).
The highest number of hours worked by persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing and in human health and social work activities
The highest average monthly number of hours (137 or 5 more than the national average) was worked by persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing and in human health and social work activities. The main reason was a higher number of paid and unpaid overtime hours worked.
The largest annual increase in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply
The total number of hours worked increased in almost all activities. The increase was the highest in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (by 11.6%).
